Dr. James Armstrong BSc, MBA, DMD

Dr. Jim Armstrong is a past president (2007/2008) of the British Columbia Dental Association representing all 3000 BC dentists and serving the 4 million plus BC residents. For the past 6 years he has been one of 6 BC representatives to the Canadian Dental Association general assembly. Jim’s passions have been improving access to care for financially challenged segments of the population both in BC and Canada, with a special emphasis on expanding reduced fee clinics for low income seniors, children and families, and the homeless and indigent across all areas of BC. He is presently the Chairman of the Economics Committee for the BCDA as well as managing doctor of the Aarm Dental Group.

When he has free time, it is spent with family, skiing and fishing. Jim has taught both dental students and post-graduate training for dentists at UBC and SFU over the past 25 years. He is presently one of the “Media Experts” chosen by the Canadian Dental Association to speak on behalf of Canadian dentists. He is also a Contributing Editor for the CDA dental journal, one of the highest ranked dental journals in organized dentistry. As well, he continues his own post-graduate training in aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry in a post-graduate training program for now over 22 years.

Dr. Scott Merkley, DDS

Dr. Scott Merkley was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, but fell in love with BC at an early age. After graduating dental school, in 1994 from the University of Western Ontario, he worked in Southern Ontario, eventually finding his way to BC in 2002.  He is an accomplished family and cosmetic dentist and is a partner at our Beach clinic.  Scott enjoys continuing education in the topics of restorative, endodontics and orthodontics.  He is a certified Invisalign provider.  Scott is also a member of BC-FORT: a team of forensic dentist that assist in the identification of victims of crime and mass disaster.  Scott has a love of BC outdoors, dabbling in numerous outdoor pursuits with his wife, Jo, their young son Zak and their dog, Luna.

Dr. Anisa Quadir, B.Sc, DMD

After completing her undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, Dr. Anisa Quadir went on to graduate from the faculty of Dentistry in 1981. She began her career in Abbotsford when it was a small farming community and has seen it grow into a city..

During this time, Dr Quadir managed and worked at her own office until recently  when she sold her practice and moved to Vancouver. She is committed to providing a relaxing and comfortable experience for patients of all ages and particularly enjoys working with young patients and the challenges that go with taking care of the dental concerns of mentally and physically challenged members of our community.

As for continuing education, she has completed programs in orthodontics and prosthodontics but recently she is focusing on endodontics and aesthetics. In fact Dr. Quadir has completed her certification to administer Botox and is looking forward to offering this to her patients at the Beach clinic.

When not in the dental office, Dr. Quadir enjoys socializing with friends, trying to stay fit (always a challenge!), and active travelling with her daughter whose idea of exercise is shopping in the mall!

Dr. John Roach, DDS

Dr. John Roach has practiced dentistry for over 40 years, graduating from Dalhousie University practicing in both Ontario and Vancouver with a practice on Georgia street for over 30 years He has been an instructor and student in graduate dental education for virtually his whole 40 years, presently Dr. Roach is a clinical instructor for 3rd and 4th years students at UBC. Dr. Roach’s passions are golf, traveling with his wife Trish, and learning to “blog” in order to train the next generation of UBC dental students.

Dr. Roach teaches advanced diagnostic and restorative techniques including crowns, bridges and implant restorations to the senior dental students at UBC, and acts as a mentor to many of the Aarm partners, including Dr. Armstrong.
