Dr. Efat Farrokhshad, why dentistry? What inspired you to become a dentist?
“I wanted to combine science, art, and patient care in a meaningful way. Dentistry allows me to help people restore not only their oral health but also their confidence and quality of life.”
I love that answer. At Aarm we pride ourselves on providing patient-centered dental care, and firmly believe in improving our patients quality of life through holistic oral health. Is there a favourite part of your practice?
“Seeing the immediate positive impact of treatment on patients’ comfort, appearance, and confidence. I also enjoy building long-term relationships and guiding patients through preventive care.”
Dr. Farrokhshad, you touched on something so important in terms of creating long-term relationships with your patients. Going to the dentist can be an intimidating thing, is there a common misconception about visiting the dentist?
“A common misconception is that oral health is separate from general health. In reality, oral diseases like gum disease are linked to systemic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.”
Dr. Farrokhshad within your practice at Aarm Dental Group on Beatty, you offer health care in two languages: Farsi and English. Can you speak to the importance of multi-lingual health care and it’s relation to accessibility within dentistry?
“When patients can express their concerns in their own language, they feel more comfortable and empowered in their treatment. Multilingual communication removes barriers and builds trust.”
Dentistry is a field in which dentists are consistently learning new techniques, technologies, and better practices. In terms of your post-graduate education, is there something that excites you the most?
“I’ve been especially excited by advancements in digital dentistry—such as intra oral scanning and CAD/CAM technology—which are transforming the accuracy and comfort of treatment.”
At Aarm Dental Group, across all locations, we’re thrilled to accept the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). What does the CDCP mean to you in terms of increasing patients access to and quality of care?
“The CDCP provides more patients with access to essential dental care, particularly those who previously could not afford treatment. It helps reduce oral health disparities and encourages preventive care, which ultimately improves long-term outcomes.”
Aarm’s motto is ‘Patient Centered Dental Care’, what does this mindset mean to you and how do you incorporate this within your practice?
“It means listening closely to each patient’s concerns, respecting their values, and involving them in decisions about their treatment. It’s about empathy, clear communication, and individualized solutions.”
Dr. Farrokhshad, what’s something that all patients should do to increase their oral health?
“I would say: never underestimate the importance of prevention. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups can save patients from extensive and costly treatments later.”
Outside of dentistry, what inspires you?
“Outside of dentistry, I’m inspired by: spending quality time with family, music, travel, hiking. These experiences keep me balanced and energized.”
