Teeth Whitening in Vancouver

Brighten your smile by up to 8 shades with professional teeth whitening at Aarm Dental Group. Choose from in-chair Zoom whitening or a take-home kit, whichever fits your lifestyle best.

What is Teeth Whitening?

We offer two professional whitening options: take-home bleaching kits and in-chair Zoom whitening. Home bleaching uses custom trays worn overnight for 10 to 14 days, while Zoom whitening is completed in the dental chair in about an hour using proprietary light technology. Both methods can lighten your teeth by up to 8 shades.

Home bleaching can sometimes cause more sensitivity than in-chair treatment. Over-the-counter whitening strips and kits carry an even higher risk of sensitivity, since they aren't customized to your teeth.

What the treatment involves

Zoom whitening takes just over an hour from start to finish. Your gums are first isolated to protect them, then a proprietary whitening gel is applied to the front of your teeth. A specialized light activates the gel for 15 minutes, during which you relax comfortably in the dental chair wearing protective dark glasses. The gel is then rinsed off, and the process is typically repeated two to three times to achieve 6 to 8 shades of whitening.

After the final application, we apply a vitamin E gel to soothe the gums and a clear fluoride treatment to protect the teeth. Mild sensitivity may occur for a day or two afterward, and over-the-counter pain relief is often recommended if needed..

What to expect

Teeth can whiten by up to 8 shades, with results visible immediately. A brighter smile is one of the most noticeable ways to enhance your overall appearance, and research shows people instinctively associate a white smile with health and attractiveness.

Results typically last months to years, depending on your diet. For the first couple of days after treatment, avoid dark foods like leafy greens or tomato-based sauces, which can stain teeth while they're most porous. Using a whitening toothpaste can also help maintain your results for longer.

Who’s a good candidate for teeth whitening?

Anyone with stained or yellowed teeth is a good candidate for whitening. Everyday foods and drinks, from red wine and pasta sauce to coffee and tea, naturally darken teeth over time, so most people notice some degree of staining as they age.

Patients with exposed tooth roots may need extra precautions during treatment, and Zoom whitening is often the better option for those with gum recession. Whitening is also one of the simplest, most noninvasive ways to improve your smile with no drilling or fillings required. Keep in mind that existing crowns or visible white fillings won't change colour, so they may need to be replaced to match your newly whitened teeth.
